Fake Designer Clothing is Inferior
We all know that counterfeit items are inferior to the real stuff. But, is there that MUCH of a difference? YES! And, today's post compares a fake Herve Leger to an authentic one. Read on for all the juicy details!
Fit
When it comes to clothing, the number one priority is FIT. Does it flatter the body?
So, obviously, the counterfeiters got the design wrong. But, the bigger difference is the fit. Look at how the authentic dress pulls in the waist and enhances cleavage.
The fake was not tight at all around the waist and quite tighter around the hips and particularly the thighs. The authentic dress focuses on creating an hourglass shape, whereas the fake disregards all of this. Thus, the shape is significantly less flattering.
You can see why the shape is so bad. The dress hardly has any differentiation from the waist to the hips. Then, it narrows around the legs.
This fake is actually a very good counterfeit. Its fit is MUCH MUCH better than most fakes. It is even individually banded, but when compared to the authentic dress, it is no comparison.
Quality
Counterfeiters do not care about the designer's reputation, and they do not have the high standards of a luxury brand. As a result, replicas are very poor in quality and workmanship. Their goal is not to trick brand enthusiasts. Their goal is to keep costs very low and sell high to the general uninformed public at the highest margins possible.
Here are a couple of the quality issues on the fake. The band fabric wasn't even aligned smoothly, and messy black threading is showing on the gray bands!
Durability
Herve Leger counterfeits are often made of the same fabric composition. But, just because a fake is also 90% rayon, 9% nylon, and 1% spandex, the fabric is still quite different. Oftentimes, the elasticity on counterfeits is much stiffer and prone to being stretched out much faster. Different treatments to fabric can enhance favorable characteristics. For instance, authentic Herve Leger utilizes high tenacity rayon. Most rayon that counterfeits use are low tenacity and is very fragile against water and heat. This means that these dresses stretch out with wear or when washed. The lower elasticity also means poorer fit.
Zippers and seams are also quite different in quality. Fakes are more prone to rips and tears.
Resale Value
If you purchase a counterfeit, resale is harder.
1. Everyone wants an authentic luxury item, but many people hate counterfeits.
2. It's technically illegal to sell a fake.
Authentic designer items oftentimes retain their value (sometimes even appreciate!). So, there's no financial benefit to buying a fake.
Embarrassment
Some people don't care... but others are really self conscious when wearing a fake. Because some people can spot fakes very quickly at a distance. 😛 Spare yourself the embarrassment, and treat yourself to the real thing!
These issues apply to not only Herve Leger counterfeits but all fake designer clothing.
